Last night Jamaican runner Usian Bolt set a new world record for the Men’s 200m Final finishing in 19.30, previously set by Michael Johnson in 1996 (19.32), winning the gold for his country. Bolt set another record on August 19 for the Men’s 100m Final in 9.69 seconds. Bolt is also celebrating his 22nd birthday today.

What’s good everybody. Just wanted to let you know in a few hours I’ll be hopping on a plane and headed to the sneaker capital of the world - New York City for the Nike Sportswear Exclusive Block Party event at 21 Mercer Street in SOHO.

So check it, here’s a lil info about the store and the event.

“Nike Sportswear (NSW) is the first Nike Sportswear-specific store of its kind. Opening August 22nd, the stand-alone shop will be the only location globally to carry the complete NSW collection and seasonal 21 Mercer products.”

“Exclusive products being featured include the Flywire Windrunner, Air Max 90 Flywire and 21 Mercer Nike LunaRacer. The store will also offer limited quantities of other iconic footwear and apparel pieces like the made-to-order Air Force 1 Low Lux, the NSW Collection Patchwork M65 jacket and the Nike Sportswear 21 Mercer Tee collection.”

“A new and innovative appointment-only design experience called Nike Sportswear Bespoke will allow consumers to work one-on-one with Nike designers to customize select Nike footwear styles. Taking customization to new heights, Nike Sportswear Bespoke is globally exclusive to 21 Mercer and launches in Fall 2008 with the seminal Air Force 1 sneaker.”

Doors open at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 22nd, 2008.

So thats the happs in a nutshell about the store. Now about the Paaaartay!

“Nike is hosting an invite-only block party (tonight) August 21st to celebrate the launch of 21 Mercer Street, NYC. Guests will see Mercer Street transform into a New York stadium, and be the first to experience the store which opens the following day.”

“The event will feature a presentation by artist Robert Wilson and producer Noah Khoshbin, who rendered Nike’s innovations in the areas of sport and design into the energy of athletes—dancer Sofia Boutella, skateboarder Shingo Iwasaki and BMX rider Nigel Sylvester—creating a unique visual and sensory experience. Their project premiered at the Nike Sportswear launch in Beijing in May, 2008. Complimenting this work will be a series of projects by artists Timothy McGurr, Heron Preston and Boogie, inspired by New York sport and style.”

It’s sure to be CRAZY!!! As a Nike Head who wears jewels that excite the Feds, It’s a honor for me to receive an invite to this event

STAY TUNED… STAY TUNED… STAY TUNED

For the recap from this event.

Hopefully they have one of these bags for a brotha.

Senor should be getting a Christmas bonus for initiating this ruckus between GAME and Bow Wow and generating what must be approaching well over 100k impressions. I mean this whole MADDEN thing began last week at the INTERSCOPE offices in ATLANTA & instead of Favre dominating the conversation it has become about who can beat GAME @ Madden. Ayo EA Sports we need some of those exclusive fitteds & Gilbert Arenas x EA Sports x adidas (11 for me) over here for the team!

So last week I was @ The @#$%S%*Y for an after party and I’m chilling in the dj booth w/ my man DJ C-Stylez. I’m a practicing sociologist, I watch people, take notes on trendsetters and trendy people & incorporate that into my lifestyle marketing campaigns. Anyway, I’m not particularly enjoying the scene one way or another but I was there just to politic with C and my dude Tony that manages the joint. C-Styles goes into his Reggae set and I witness something straight out of a BOONDOCKS episode. The females were swaying and grooving their hips without the assistance of any male counterparts! Now don’t get it twisted there were males and females in the spot. The dudes were cool just watching the ladies doing what they do. Ok.

The next thing I know C went into his Dirty South set and the it was pure pandemonium!!! Except… the dudes were in a circle dancing with each other!!!   WTF??? The females were outside their cipher while dudes were in the circle acting out their favorite video!!!  :???: (Dope Music + Good Looking Women) x Liquor = Homies Over H*es

I fear this epidemic is worse than that sudden outbreak of B*tch A**ness that plagued the industry late last year. SMH I don’t get it, from the sagging of the pants at thigh level to dancing in the club with each other!!!

Does anyone know of an antidote?

Soooo… This is why you can’t mention Marketing in Atlanta without mentioning Vintage Imperial!!!

Last night if you missed Bun B The Underground King himself perform with live band Orgone SLAP YO SELF WITH A WAFFLE IRON 3 TIMES!!! LOL

You know how we do. The Scion Live Metro Concert Series is back in full effect. That means free shows from great Hip Hop artists for the people of ATL.

sci-metro_bunb_atl-2.jpg

In the past we’ve had Big Daddy Kane, Little Brother, Ghostface, Raekwon, GZA, Brand Nubian, Pharoahe Monch, Slick Rick, De La Soul, all come threw and bless the stage. Other than Little Brother though, we’ve never had a down south artist come threw until last night.

Might I add this was also Bun’s first time ever performing with a live band. Think about that. This dude has been putting out music for damn near 20 years and has never performed with a live band. That’s what you call Hip Hop History being made.

Check the Pics…

Bun B took time to take a flick with the Street Team as well.

bun-b-street-team.JPG

Bun had on the Jordan 6 Rings joints that we told you about earlier.

bun-bs-footwork.JPG

Let me just say this. Over the years I’ve worked with a LOT of artists. And some were a lot easier to deal with than others. TRUST! Bun was one of the most pleasant, easy going, professional artists I’ve had to chance of working with. Don’t get it twisted though he will put you in your place quick, but he’s stern about it, not asshole like. And money has a great memory.

We got a chance to let Bun check out the new Madden 09 on X Box 360 - (NO I didn’t get skunked again!). Shout out to David and CJ from the Konsole Kingz for being patient in all the Madness.

bun-b-playing-madden.JPG
Dy Ayres (Not Aires) from The Rub crew held down the sounds for the evening.

dj-ayres.JPG

After the band heated up the stage… Bun came out and ripped threw song after song. It was great to see them Nail Big Pimpin which they had just rehearsed together the night before.

bun-performance-1.JPG

Dj Drama decided to make a stop threw as well as Khujo + T Mo + and Gip from Goodie Mob.

goodie-drama.JPG

Shout out to Dj Jelly and Dj Hotsauce for taking the time to interview me real quick for Oomp Camp Live.

Oh… And then this happened. Cee Lo showed up after the rest of the Goodie pops up. Word has it they had just gotten off stage at the Nelly concert which was downtown. How wack for them to pop out at a Nelly show and not at Bun B? Boooo. LOL I just saw Cee Lo a week ago at the SOLD OUT Gnarls Barkley show last week. I still have video I need to post from that.

Was still good to see the brothas all together at once. I guess one monkey can stop a show!

Shout out to Chicagorilla who snapped this pic. Maurice Garland caught a great shot as well.

I been meaning to post this for a minute. (We grind 24-7 whatchu want me to do?) The Pepsi DJ Division rolled throught the ATL recently and made a stop at Sugar Hill. Compared to last year, this show was more intimate (hot, packed and sweaty. If the AC was on it would’ve been all good). Performances included Asher Roth, DJ Unk, Ne-Yo, Fabolous & Three Six Mafia. I tried to hang around for the headliner Kid Capri, but it was two o’clock in the morning and I had enough of slap a h*e, shoot a n*gga, sip some syrup!

Ran across this article earlier today…

College presidents from about 100 of the nation’s best-known universities, including Duke, Dartmouth and Ohio State, are calling on lawmakers to consider lowering the drinking age from 21 to 18, saying current laws actually encourage dangerous binge drinking on campus.

The movement called the Amethyst Initiative began quietly recruiting presidents more than a year ago to provoke national debate about the drinking age.

“This is a law that is routinely evaded,” said John McCardell, former president of Middlebury College in Vermont who started the organization. “It is a law that the people at whom it is directed believe is unjust and unfair and discriminatory.”

Other prominent schools in the group include Syracuse, Tufts, Colgate, Kenyon and Morehouse.

But even before the presidents begin the public phase of their efforts, which may include publishing newspaper ads in the coming weeks, they are already facing sharp criticism.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving says lowering the drinking age would lead to more fatal car crashes. It accuses the presidents of misrepresenting science and looking for an easy way out of an inconvenient problem. MADD officials are even urging parents to think carefully about the safety of colleges whose presidents have signed on.

“It’s very clear the 21-year-old drinking age will not be enforced at those campuses,” said Laura Dean-Mooney, national president of MADD.

Both sides agree alcohol abuse by college students is a huge problem.

Personally I don’t see a problem with this. If you are old enough to go off to war and get killed.. you should be old enough to drink alcohol. What do you think?
